It's been a long wait of 4 years for the release of 'Sonicology' , the last we heard from Sydney band The Laurels was their debut album 'Plains'. Everything went a little quiet for the band, their social media accounts were blanked out but during this time the band built their own studio space, bought heaps of new equipment such as synthesizers, old records and they worked a lot with hip-hop producers.
'Sonicology' is the result of much determination to reinvent themselves as a band and to produce something that wasn't categorised into a specific genre. The term 'Sonicology' refers to the healing power of sound and music, making particular reference to the manipulation of sound in order to reach elevated levels of consciousness. The album is full of synths over warped guitars, funk, disco and brass instruments chuck ed into the mix.
