I think the world was worried that perhaps we wouldn’t hear from Tame Impala in 2017 after announcing their hiatus, but out of no where the Perth group have released ‘Currents B-Sides & Remixes – EP’. Better late than never, Kevin and the boys have provided a short but excellent follow up to their highly successful album ‘Currents’.
The EP consists of three originals that missed the cut on their 2016 album and two remixed tracks from ‘Currents’. How the original songs are only B-Side’s is a mystery to me as it’s still some of their best work, each song has that identifiable Tame Impala sound that simply cannot be mistaken for anyone else. The instrumental track ‘Powerlines’ is instantly noticeable as Tame Impala even with the absence of Kevin’s sweet vocals. Personal favourite is opening track List of People (To Try and Forget About), lyrically Kevin has continued to express his emotions of heartbreak and betrayal that was an obvious influence on ‘Currents’. Remixes include a shake-up of ‘Reality In Motion’ by Gum, for those who don’t Gum is none other than the multi-instrumentalist powerhouse Jay Watson from Tame Impala.
From here I think where all licking our lips hoping our favourite band are up to something big in 2018, hopefully an album. Whatever it is, they’re sorely missed and we’re looking forward to their return. In the meantime enjoy this EP, I guarantee it’ll keep you happy in the meantime.
