After having a chat with GANZ last week about his Australian tour and hearing how stoked he was for splendour and to be back in oz, I was starting to get really excited to see him play in Perth! I hadn't been to Villa in a long time but the place is exactly as I remember it. The venue is two stories with an open floor on the top that wraps around the venue so there are plenty of places to view the stage. It was a sold out gig and there was a line down the road of people trying to get the few door sales up for grabs.
Supporting GANZ were Akouo & Holly. Akouo set the scene for the night with his trap/R&B and dubstep tones, the energy was building as the venue started to fill up, you could feel the excitement growing with every drop. Mixing in classics from Flume, RL Grime and finishing up with ‘Lightyears’ from GANZ as he was coming onto the stage.
GANZ absolutely had everyones attention from this point on. Playing tracks from his new EP GAO but also dropping crowd favourites like TNGHT, Kanye, Jay-Z, Alison Wonderland, Skrillex and even a little bit of Beiber. All mixed incredibly smoothly into drops with his own personal touch and sound.
His ‘Hyperparadise' remix and his collaboration with What So Not ‘Lone’ went off! There was confetti and smoke blown out over the crowd for every huge drop and the light show was incredible. This is only to name a few epic moments in his set there really wasn't a dull moment. People who had snuck off to the bars were still dancing and getting lost in his drops. An incredibly euphoric set that unfortunately had to end.
Continuing on the night was Holly, he had incredible build ups of popular tracks that were mixed into drops from other crowd favourites, these tricky switches kept everyone wanting more and wondering what was going to happen next. RL Grime, Skrillex and Damien Marley made an appearance just to name a few. The night was all about trap, R&B and dubstep combinations. It worked, there was so much energy all over this venue.
Don't miss GANZ next time he is in oz and check out his GAO EP on Soundcloud or iTunes.
