The crowd roared as the lights went down and a 70’s style funk groove pumped over the PA. The crowd sizzled with anticipation until finally Lucius and Luke took to the stage, accompanied by an epic soundscape. Flynn entered, a single white light silhouetting him, as they opened with ‘The Doors’ from their 2005 album ‘The New Normal’. They immediately drew the crowd in preparing us for an intense 2-hour sonic journey, full of emotional thrills and head banging a-plenty.
The power trio from Bondi haven’t lost a step in the slightest over the last 6 years since their “Final” show at the Tivoli in Brisbane on 12th of June 2010. Flynn’s voice is as powerful as ever and their musical chemistry on stage is undeniable. The continued on to play a selection of tracks off all of their albums including ‘Are You Interested?’, ‘Real Life’, ‘Silence is Violence’ and ‘My Enemy’. It was incredible to see how passionate they all were about the amazing and often chillingly beautiful music that they had created together.
The intimacy of The Triffid was the perfect setting for such a deep and expressive show, with all the raw aggression and defiance that is such a big part of the band’s sound. The accompanying light show complimented the music brilliantly with LED’s spelling out “OK” during ‘Anarchy OK” and with wicked under lighting throughout the show. After blowing our minds for 2 hours they closed with ‘No Other Way’, a final emotional rollercoaster to leave us all amazed and craving more!
A truly spectacular show, full of all the raw power, emotion and skill that we’ve come to expect from one of the most successful independent bands in Australia.
