Passing the half-way point on their “If This Is All We’re Going To Be” Australian Tour, Luca Brasi took the stage at Jack Rabbit Slims in Perth on Thursday night. It was a cold evening on the West, however the Tasmanian group looked at home when performing in front of a sold-out crowd on a school night. I was looking forward to seeing the latest on what this band has to offer.
After what seemed a mellow introduction from opening act “The Hard Aches”, special guests “Moose Blood” warmed up the crowd with their performance to set the scene for the main act. To have never seen these guys live before I attended this gig with an open mind, only to have the mood set within the first track
Starting with “Say it back”, the 4-piece delivered a powerful opening to what seemed one of their more popular songs from the new album. I had not been too familiar with this track, however found myself caught up within the melodic, precise punk rock atmosphere which everyone stayed up on a weeknight to see in person.
Further into their performance we heard “Aeroplane” which got the crowd up and running (and a few even attempted ‘surfing’ at one stage). As one of their biggest hits this year, it was safe to say everyone was getting their monies worth.
The quartet were in the spotlight from their latest media outbursts from last Friday’s gig at the Oxford Art Factory – however none of this seemed to affect another dominant show within the intimate walls of Perth’s Jack Rabbit Slims.
Nearing the night’s end - which was much awaited, Luca Brasi featured ‘Anything Near Conviction’ to ensure we all finished on a high. Clearly the crowd favourite, this energetic tune engaged the listeners to give everything that they had left. What a way to finish a Thursday.
If this hasn’t already got you adding more tracks to your favourite playlist, I’d seriously recommend catching these guys live next time they’re in town. They definately know how to entertain a crowd.
