It's a Saturday night and you're keen for beers and live bands, so what better place is there to get your fix than Mojo's Bar in Freo. Talented Aussie punk sweethearts The Gooch Palms have returned from the US to play a few shows around Australia with Perth shows including Jack Rabbit Slim's and El Grotto, finishing it off without any shortage of energy at Mojo’s. Oosterbanger, Boat Show and Doctopus also deserve a mention for their great performances which got the good vibes rolling.
From the moment The Gooch Palms started the set, their vibrant stage presence (and hella sick tie dye shirts) had the whole venue’s attention. The duo kicked off with a few of their upbeat tunes off their 2016 album 'Introverted Extroverts'. 'Eat Up Ya Beans' was a personal highlight during the first few songs. It was such a lively performance it rocked me to my toes. It didn’t take long before they got some of the crowd involved and up on stage to join the fun, offering their sincerest of emu exports to their newfound buddies as we swayed to one of their older tracks. The vibes during their 2013 track entitled 'You' was the kind where you wrap your arm around your mates, swaying, singing and waving your drink in the air. One thing is for sure; like good hosts they looked out for the well being of the crowd, keeping us hydrated with good ol’ booze.
Things then became inspirational as they sang an epic and passionate 'I Believe I can Fly' with the entire venue singing along, which transitioned smoothly into some more sweet, sweet garage punk. Shirts came off, sweat dripped down and hair flung around for what was a great night of loud, live music. Be sure to catch this eccentric duo as they share the stage with Brisbane’s own Dune Rats in March!
