Following a premiere on FBi Radio's Mornings with Bridie, peppy neo-soul outfit/"talk of the Perth music scene" (Cool Perth Nights) Demon Days are thrilled to share their effervescent new single 'Disco Baby'. Having wrapped a tour earlier this year with a slot at Groovin The Moo Bunbury & sold-out hometown show, Demon Days are set to embark on another jaunt around the country, in support of their impending debut EP Magic Eye out independently on Friday 10 August.
Pulling bright and shiny elements from 90s pop, 80s synth tones & 70s disco, 'Disco Baby' nearly fizzes over with mentos-in-coke energy, propelled by punchy phrases and adorned with wonky flair.
Having recently returned home after two weeks of Melbourne studio time with Grammy-nominated producer Nick Herrera (Hiatus Kaiyote, Jaala), Demon Days' debut EP Magic Eye is named for the popular autostereogram books, and will inject their "new yet familiar" (Declan Byrne, triple j) self-aware and winking blend of infectious jazz, pop, funk and hip-hop elements with a galactic new energy.
"[Disco Baby] really came to life when we flew east to work with Nick Herrera. He provoked more creative
juices with bigger percussive sounds, punchy harmonies and tastier synth tones that made it really pop!
Working with Nick was an incredible experience for the band, pushing our boundaries to its full potential with an end result of something that we are really proud of. He sorted through the clutter of our
songs and formulated a cohesive and mature version, making the sound bigger with complicated yet necessary layers," says WAM-nominated vocalist Bella Nicholls.
Thanks in no small part to their vivacious live show, capable of "transform[ing] any group of 20-somethings into an appreciative audience of jazz cats” (TheMusic.com.au), Demon Days (Bella Nicholls, Joshua Chan, Marley Donnan-Cook, Mark Ashforth & Will Britto) have already shared stages with the likes of Nai Palm, Willow Beats, Stella Donnelly, POW! Negro, Sampology, Sex On Toast, Fortunes & Psychedelic Porn Crumpets and at events like Falls Festival and Fairbridge Festival despite the outfit's relative youth.
Having carved an impossibly stylish niche for themselves as "much-loved kids" (RTRFM) in their local scene, the five-piece shot to #3 on the AMRAP Airit Metro Chart via 2017's 'Killer Bees' which premiered on triple j, earning a tick of approval from Red Bull and attracting the attention of New World Artists's Dominic Miller, with whom they signed in early 2018. First new music for the year 'No Winners' found fans at Stereofox (UK), triple j, triple j Unearthed, and community radio PBSFM, Triple R, FBi Radio and beyond, wrapping a mammoth 11-date national tour with a lauded appearance at their local leg of Groovin The Moo via triple j Unearthed selection.
