Interview with Eliza & The Delusionals: The Amazing 'Half Empty Girl', Beach Sounds Festival and A Spotify Playlist To Die For!
Eliza and The Delusionals have had a huge 2018 so far, touring with Tiny Little Houses, announcing their upcoming tour with Luca Brasi and playing Beach Sounds Festival, July 14th with The Pretty Littles, Voiid, Wharves, Stumps, Crum and many more. The band has also just dropped the epic track 'Half Empty Girl' and to celebrate we have asked them to share with us their Top 10 most influential tracks. Check out the interview below!
So you’ve just released ‘Half Empty Girl’ can you tell us what it’s about?
Half Empty Girl was influenced by the idea of feeling confused and unsure about the choices you’re making and the things you’re doing in life. As a young person trying to make a career in a creative industry, it can sometimes be hard not to second guess yourself.
When did you write this song and what were you feeling at the time?
I had the idea for Half Empty Girl for a while and I think it came to me sometime early last year. It took a few months to execute the full idea through song, and we’ve had it in our set for months (It’s always been a really fun one to play live). I was definitely second guessing myself at the time on a lot of things, which is where I drew a lot of the lyrical inspiration from.
Recording this song with Oscar Dawson of Holy Holy is HUGE, how did that come about?
Oscar is a dream producer for us. Holy Holy have had a huge impact and influence on our music our band so when we reached out about working with him we were all really excited when he agreed, and we began talking about it all.
You guys have got some massive shows under you belt now, touring with Tiny Little Houses and have just been announced as support for Luca Brasi, do you have any pre show rituals?
Usually before a set for us it’s a lot of banter and jokes, just keeping a good mood before the show.
What’s your favourite thing about going on tour?
We love that we can see new places and meeting new people. Every tour is always really different and we love being able to experience all of the cool places, venues and bands around the country.
Your also playing Beach Sounds Festival in Lennox which is an all ages, drug and alcohol free event, what do you love most about Beach Sounds?
It’s actually our first time going to Beach Sounds and we’ve never played in Lennox before, so we’re just really excited to finally play a show there at such a cool event!
Who are you most excited to see/play with?
We’re super excited for Wharves and Stumps, and were super excited when they were added to the lineup recently!
What’s install for the rest of 2018?
We’ve been writing a lot, so new music for sure and definitely more touring.
We’ve asked you to pick your top 10 songs, can you tell us about one of them and why its so influential to you as a band?
Probably our biggest collective influence is Catfish & the Bottlemen. I added Homesick to the playlist as it’s probably one of their most significant songs for me. It’s the opening track to their album ‘The Balcony’ which was a huge influence and pivotal moment for me as a songwriter and for all of us when we were defining a direction early as a band. I actually ended up getting the album artwork tattooed on me.
