GD FRNDS invite you on a journey. We have carefully hand selected four exciting new acts who oscillate and transcend psychedelic idioms. This vanity lineup solidifies the rising swell of new musical prowess sweeping the Gold Coast.
As a surprise to no one, we are again taking over GD FRNDS' home of musical diversification, Miami Shark Bar on Sunday 26 August. Here, we proudly present our newly founded auditory and visual environment.
Our curated lineup is pieced together from acts both local and abroad. Leading the pack is the Gold Coast's new hot ticket item, Lens. The five-piece have crafted their own psychedelic language, which lingers in both abstract and obscure new sounds on 'Time Orchard'.
Once strangers to this Queensland coastal town, they've now become fretful to return. Adelaide's Neon Tetra are back again—now equipped with their Pollen EP—to eschew new dynamics of Motown, soul and psych. AAA Backstage named them 2018's best new live band. Enough said.
Filling the local quota, the ambitious Clawmachine and Echowave will also join our night of psych exploration. While both acts began as solo experiments in their respective bedrooms, they've gone off to expand their live experience into a mysterious, instinctual affirmation of focus, fun and clarity.
The GD FRNDS Showcase descends upon Miami Shark Bar on Sunday 26 August. First in best dressed—this will sell out.
Detailing themselves as, "fuzzy spaceman rock," Lens is the Gold Coast's new hive mind for obliterating psychedelic ideas. Minimal garage-rock dusted with loose, whirring jams, Lens' 'Time Orchard' is a modern masterpiece. It's a testament to their shorthand with one another, which somehow ties all the fraying, crusty, silken, wiener dog, kitty cat threads so seamlessly together.
A band in love with progression, Neon Tetra is Adelaide's best new asset. Taking their brisk neo-soul jams nationally yet again—all thanks to their wildly enticing and forward-thinking new EP, 'Pollen'—the four-piece touch on something audaciously new and austere. Their dance floor ready algorithms will certainly please the masses.
Clawmachine is the kaleidoscopic creation of young producer, Dylan Lindquist. In order to translate the magic made indoors to the stage, Lindquist recruits four of his closest friends to join in a collaborative and fun creative journey. Clawmachine has already proven to be a uniting conduit for music lovers on the Gold Coast with their debut EP, 'Good Harvest'—capturing the spirit of youth, fun and ingenuity.
Step into the fantastical world of Echowave—the psychedelic-pop project of multi-instrimentalist, Cam Croaker. Following the Tame Impala bible of psych mythology, Croaker creates the songs in the studio and enhances them onstage with his full band. Their self-titled, debut EP results in a nostalgic epiphany that calls back the sounds of the late '60s psych-pop to the '70s power-pop movement.
