LES KRILLS is the vivid indie-rock creation of Suffolk Park locals, Alain de Carne and Nick Pollet. The duo only joined forces in early 2017, and the public have already been receptive to their decadent guitar-bop sound. They have just released 'In Another Life' alongside the video for 'Old Shoes' directed by Nick Pollet himself.
They’ve received an influx of shining reviews on Triple J Unearthed, as well as the two singles, ‘The West’ and ‘Money Trees’; being featured on Spotify’s Discover Weekly and Release Radar playlists, along with plays on FBI radio and Triple J.
What makes this project successful is how smoothly the pair has stirred sentimental lyrics through sunny instrumentals, to create a polished debut EP, titled ‘In Another Life’.
The rich reverb in each track is reflective of their small home studio just outside Byron Bay, where they wrote and recorded the entire thing. The 5-song collection paints an aural landscape of nostalgic self-discovery amid a backdrop of glimmering guitar riffs; which treats ears to a liberated expression of de Carne and Pollet’s personal experiences.
In particular, the third track ‘Old Shoes’ is a poignant depiction of de Carne’s personal affliction with drinking. The song begins slow with earnest confessions of anguish, until a despondent “I’m not strong enough”, introduces a colourful melody to offset the sombre nature of the lyrics.
To complement the song, Pollet’s background in filmmaking has allowed the duo to visually convey the story of ‘Old Shoes’ through their most recent music video. The public becomes a voyeur into the whimsical dissolution of one man and his drinks; with a pair of aged Converse’s being symbolic of the enticing nature of old habits. The video is an interesting coupling of visual warmth against a darker implicit theme.
‘In Another Life’ is truly a celebration of authenticity, and an impressive debut from Les Krills. It’s the perfect bouquet of songs to burn petrol to along your favourite open road.
So with your windows down, you can give the whole EP a listen on Spotify, iTunes, Soundcloud and other various music platforms.
