New York dance music royal, Nancy Whang, best known for her work in LCD Soundsystem and apart of the illustrious DFA Records, has announced a Gold Coast show between her Splendour in the Grass performance.
After Whang's set at Splendour in the Grass this Saturday, she will be headed to our golden strip to Elsewhere Bar, Surfers Paradise for a DJ set. Considering Queensland tend to miss out on all Splendour in the Grass sideshow action, this is very generous news.
Nancy Whang, a key figure in the rise of DFA Records remains faithful to the post-punk party aesthetic upon which DFA was founded and since LCD Soundsystem disbanded back in 2011, we expect her DJ sets to fill the void that LCD left behind.
Proudly brought to be local promoters, Strange Yonder, they spoke to Blank GC about bringing the legendary DJ down under on a tight deadline.
"I pitched Nancy to Splendour when I arrived home from New York last year. It was up the air for a couple of months. Then they contacted my 48 hours before the line up was going public and asked me if I could turn it round in 24 hours. Safe to say I worked for 24 hours straight, but we managed to get it done. We have a nice little east coast run happening starting in Melbourne on the 23rd, finishing on the Gold Coast on the 26th," says Strange Yonder's Trent Gardiner.
Nancy Whang plays Elsewhere Bar, Surfers Paradise this Sunday 26 July.
