After a two year break from the studio Nick Cunningham is back with his second EP ‘In Between’. It was interesting to see if this would live up to the expectations after the success of his debut EP ‘Letters’, it’s safe to say it definitely does. ‘California’ was the first single of his latest release that got everyone excited for the final product and it certainly doesn’t disappoint.
It took a few listens to get behind ‘In Between’, but after a few rotations of his music you realise what a gifted songwriter Nick Cunningham actually is. It’s not easy to integrate singing and guitar to come become one, but that is definitely Nick’s strongest musical ability and the reason we enjoy his music. Throughout the EP he sings of relatable problems we all face or have experienced before. Closing track ‘Nervous’ describes the personal struggles of the everyday person questioning their purpose in life, however Nick reassures to relax and reminding that everything happens for a reason but will eventually work out. It’s a beautiful composition and a personal favourite on the EP.
Overall ‘In Between’ is such a personal EP where Nick expresses his deepest feelings through his art; you can imagine the writing process consisted of just him and his guitar. The minimalist but beautiful song writing on each song is a step up from his previous EP and has the ability to connect with listeners musically and personally, definitely recommended as it’s Nick’s best work yet.
