Brisbane rock powerhouses Port Royal are coming back with their second EP Love, Passion, Satisfaction on August 10 after two years of hard work and performing. Dropping two singles and releasing a massive twenty-date tour, Love, Passion, Satisfaction presents the four-piece’s passion and handwork they have put into their craft.
Bigger and better than their first EP The Express (2015), Love, Passion, Satisfaction is a 5-track compilation which showcases the love of rock that Port Royal shares collectively. Reminiscent of good old ‘60s/‘70s rock and en-captures essence of influences like The Rolling Stones and The Beatles, this new release is set to take you back in time.
Taking of with the hard-hitting track 'Beating Blues', it sets a great tone to the start of the musical journey. Up-beat and ready to make you groove, the track is a feels-good song with an underlying meaning of beating hardships and getting through obstacles uncovered when listening to the lyrics. Accompanied by the thrashing drums and guitar riffs for days, Beating Blues is only the start of the new release.
Slowing it down early on in the track-list is 'One Of A Kind',, a sweet singalong song, that uncovers a new side to Port Royal. Sung by the bands lead guitarist Liam Morton, with back up vocals by frontman Lawson Doyle, the tune is really something else when you pay attention to all the details. Different to the rest of their tracks, 'One Of A Kind' demonstrates the contrast and capability of the range in rock sub-genres the band work with.
'Baby Don’t Know' and 'Famous For Sure' channels the early UK pop-rock influence, with hard-hitting lyrics and truths backed by a flurry of instrumental. As a reoccurring theme within their songs, Doyle describes the EP as en-capturing “life's triumphs as well as it's struggles …”. Also mentioning that it’s “packed to the b'rim with melodies and stories that scream of love, passion and the drive to be satisfied” 'Baby Don’t Know' and 'Famous For Sure' really show the pure ideology and vision behind Love, Passion, Satisfaction.
Sending off the stellar EP with 'Lucy', the tune is designed to pull at heartstrings and hold the one you love close. Emotional and pensive, bassist Chase Brodie swaps his bass for a keyboard which works wonders accompanied with the luscious guitars of Doyle and Morton as well as the light cymbal based drums of Connor Arnold.
In celebration of these 5 passion filled songs, Port Royal is taking on a twenty-date tour down the East Coast throughout August, September, October and November. Taking on a new journey with the new EP and new venues, the band’s homecoming show held at The Triffid in November will be bigger and better than their sell-out show at Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall. Supported by mates The Cherry Dolls, Selfish Sons and Georgie Neilson & The Growing Pains, what a time it will be alive to see these boys rock out.
