Natasha Bruce got to have a chat with Fi from Bleach Girls about touring in Bali, Aus and everywhere in between, recording the E.P and heaps more...
Hey Fi, you’ve just been in Bali how was it?
So much fun, we got to play like four gigs and surf, get a tan and drink beers it was super fun.
Where did the name Bleach Girls come from?
Well we were actually originally going to be called Daisy Chainsaw, but that name was already taken from a band over it the states and Bleach Girls was a name that Mickey came up with and it kind of just stuck. We both love Nirvana and their album Bleach so it kind of came from that to.
Who are bleach girls and what’s your sound?
We love the beach, we love summer. We both love the Beach Boys and the Ramones which you can hear though our music. We’re all about having a good time making garage-rock jams.
How did you guys go about writing and recording the EP?
We rented out an old warehouse in Burleigh and wrote like 20 songs and were practicing like every day and then narrowed it down to our favourites and we went to producer Mark Duckworth at Blind Boy Studios, he’s also a good friend of ours so the whole thing was really fun.
And you’ve put out a music video for Like You, will you be making anymore?
Yeah defiantly, that was so much fun to film, we just found an abandoned house in Palm Beach and started filming it all, all the neighbours came out and were watching and stuff. Defiantly, we want to put out as many as possible, we’ve actually got one in the works at the moment which we want to release soon.
What can we expect from your gigs?
Lots of fun and a good time!
What will you guys be doing when you’re not playing gigs?
Well we live in a pretty relaxing place, Mickey and I both surf so a lot of that and we also work full time, so that’s why we’ve kind of put the gigs on over the weekends.
What’s your go to summer song going to be?
I love the Dune Rats, they’re kind of a go to party band and their new song Scott Green is awesome.
Where can we find your music online?
We’re kind of across every platform, iTunes, band camp, Spotify, sound cloud and Triple J unearthed, Mikey heard us on the radio the other day which was pretty funny, like singing along to your own song.
