The Jim Mitchells, hailing from Sydney are one band who are making waves, some sweet left handers in fact. They just dropped their E.P 'Planet Absorbed', which is our Album Of The Week here at Rabbit Radio, a 6 track E.P full of psych rock goodness. We got to have a chat with the band before they make their way up to Gold Coast for their show at Miami Shark Bar, this Sunday.
So The Jim Mitchells are pretty new, tell us a bit about how you guys came together?

I moved to Sydney from WA at the end of 2014 with a handful of new demos that I had recorded at home before I left. After a few months I was introduced to Rick (Snowden) and Josh (White) through a mutual friend and they we're diggin on the songs and were just starting up their label Third Eye Stimuli Records. Rick and I then set out to re-record the songs which ended up becoming the Planet Absorbed EP. The live band developed from there and I recruited Louis on bass as well. We played a bunch of shows as a 4 piece before Dom joined on keys and guitar in the last month or so.

Your about to go on tour for the EP where are you most looking forward to going?  (Obviously Qld....;) )

Definitely Shark Bar, heard that it gets pretty dialled. But in saying that, all the shows have been great so far. Cronulla was a really fun one.

Is this the first big venture for the band?

We did a trip to Melbourne in July which was our first time playing interstate. We also played in Byron as a one off thing for a splendor pre-party last year. So, not the first, but the furthermost..?

'Planet Absorbed' and 'You Unfollow Me' have been released this year, how have they been going?
Pretty well I guess haha..it's hard to really quantify that but people seem to be digging those songs when we play them live and they're coppin' some love on community radio as well which is nice.

The film clips are really interesting, where was You Unfollow Me filmed and how do you guys come up with these wacky film clips?
We shot that clip over three days around Newcastle and at my house in Sydney- covered our entire living room in aluminum foil, which turned out to be a lot of foil haha. My girlfriend and I came up with the concept and made all the masks and costumes ourselves. I wanted to do something different to the 'Planet Absorbed' clip but keeping in the same idea of colour use and including some pretty zorched characters.

So the bands your playing with this weekend Sunrose, Trapdoor, & Radolescent, are you guys keen to check out the music on the Gold Coast, although Sunrose are from byron?

Of course, it's always rad to see what bands are doing in different places. We've been able to play with some really good bands on this trip so far (cc: Nick Nuisance and the Delinquents, The Gum Drops, Velvet Elevator and Imperial Broads) and I'm sure Gold Coast will be no different!

What else will you guy's be checkin out on the coast whiles your here?

Hopefully some waves and see some m8's in Byron on the way

 To keep things fun ...

Would you rather experience the beginning of planet earth or the end of planet earth?

Beginning...we're kinda already experiencing the end!

Would you rather eat a bowl of vomit or lick a hobo's foot?
Depends who's vomit..?

Would you rather eat a potato and feel its pain, or be a potato?
Be the potato- they're so versatile

If you could be any colour in a crayon box what would it be and why?
Bacon

If you could have any super power what would it be and why?
