Brisbane 5 piece, WAAX are non stop being the talk of the town. They ripped up every set they played over BIGSOUND and we caught every one of them, they have only officially released two singles and have their Holy Sick E.P out and ready roll very soon, we had a big chat with these guys but only so much content could be put online.. You can catch these guys at Red Deer Festival on October 3rd..
So you guys have two official singles out and your e.p holy is out very soon, how were the releases?
The E.P is ready to go but we've been sitting on 'I For An Eye' for a while, the reaction was a bit staggered like it went really well and then it died off a bit and then went really well again. We got added to full rotation on Triple J, so we were going to put out another song but thought we'd hold it off seeing as our single was doing pretty well. We're writing a lot in our rehearsal space, Marie also writes a lot and we demo it short after, so after BIGSOUND we'll get back into it,
What were you doing between singles, as 'Wisdom Teeth' came out last year and 'I For An Eye' this year?
We had a bunch of things ready but weren't 100% keen on them, we just really wanted to produce something we really liked
So you guys won the Triple J Unearthed competition last year, so must feel pretty good to be playing again?
It was very exciting that they wanted us to come back, winning the comp last year was the best thing that had happened for us. It's really lovely to be back.
What music do you associate your childhood with?
Tom (Drummer) - jazz for sure, Yellow Jackets who are a fusion project and Miles Davis, my Mum didn't let me listen to commercial music that wasn't jazz apart from Sting. And dad always claimed that Creedence Clearwater Revival were the best band of the decade.
Ewan (Guitar) - my brothers used to play a lot of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers,
What's the weirdest gig you've played?
Ewan (Guitar) - we got asked to do an encore and I just ripped my shirt off
Tom (Drummer) - we played our first ever show at a basketball court in some dudes backyard, the hoop was right in the middle so we were just dunking whilst playing. Actually, one gig we played, it was super late and everyone was wasted, someone yelled out 'Stairway' and then we all ended up doing 300 person acapella sing along to 'Stairway To Heaven' with just drums and bass and Marie trying to sing along, it was crazy.
Going to come to the Gold Coast soon ?
Yeah for sure, the coast will be on the tour we love playing shows there.
