Gold Coast locals Aralunar Beagle are one of the most loved live bands on the coast and for the last few months the boys have been tucked away recording some brand new material and now they have presented a pretty sweet single 'Cloud Nine' to our ears. We had a chat with Finn from the band.
How long have you been together/ how do you know each other?
We all went to the same high school so it’d be almost 10 years since we first played together. We’ve been Aralunar Beagle since 2014 but we all like to travel so we’ve only ever had a few months at time when we’ve been ably to play. This is the longest we’ve all been in one place since we started the band.
What can you tell us about the new single?
Cloud Nine will be our debut single!! It’s a short and sweet song with a surfy feel that falls more on the pop end of our spectrum! We’ve played it live a few times now and people have responded well. We’re hoping we get the same reception with the recorded version. The artwork for the single was created by our mate Jake Ashe, check his stuff out on insty @ashetrash.
Where did you write and record?
Tom (drummer) has a jam room at his place so any songs or ideas we have come together as a group there. We all have a decent amount of recording gear ourselves so we usually make demos and send them around before testing them out at rehearsal. We recorded ‘Cloud nine’ with our mate Liam Kriz at his home studio in currumbin. He also mixed and mastered the track for us!
Are you planning to release an E.P this year sometime?
We’d love to get a full E.P recorded but for now it’s easier for us to focus on smaller recording projects to support our live shows. We’re already planning to follow up ‘Cloud Nine’ with another single or two which we’ll take on an east coast tour in the coming months.
Have you got any gigs coming up?
Our single launch will be this saturday the 14th at Currumbin Pub!!RSVP HERE
Whats your opinion on the Gold Coast music scene?
The Gold Coast has some really awesome bands and venues at the moment which is great to be a part of. The scene is obviously a lot smaller than in other cities but I think having fewer venues and gigs pushes the standard up a bit as there are fewer slots to fill.
Favourite new bands floating around at the moment?
We’ve got a few of our goldy favourites TRAPDOOR, Peach Fur and Wootton Major playing with us this weekend for the single launch!! We also really like brissy psych-pop group Nice Biscuit, they’ve just released an awesome dreamy single ‘Upside Down’ which you should check out!
