FAN GIRL - NOLITA (Independent)
The first official single from Fan Girls forthcoming debut LP, 'NoLita' is a schizophrenic mismatch of hooks, combining prog drums, circus organs, thundering guitars and lush harmonies, the song takes multiple unexpected turns, providing multiple catchy moments. Lyrically, the song details feelings of solitude and vulnerability that goes hand in hand with being alone in a foreign city, reaching out to a lost friend in hope of finding something familiar and comforting.
'Nolita' is out now, and Fan Girl will be releasing another single in mid-late august, accompanied by a video. They will also be having a single launch at The Gasometer on Thursday September 1 (with Dreamcoat and Tom Prettys), as well as shows at The Bank (SYD) on Friday September 2, and Newtown Social Club (SYD) on Sunday September 4 for King Street Crawl so if you can get down to a show, do try!
JAMES VINCENT MCMORROW - GET LOW (Dew Process)
James Vincent McMorrow has just released the mesmerizing song ‘Get Low’ – the latest taste from his highly-anticipated new album We Move, which will be released via Dew Process, September 2nd.
From its arresting opening lines – “Heard you’re getting married / Everybody said / Greatest man alive / I’ve been told” – ‘Get Low’ builds beautifully from little more than raw guitar to 808s and spiralling synths (against the title’s repeated, harmonic refrain). It’s a further window into the world of We Move.
‘Get Low’ follows on from the captivating debut single ‘Rising Water’, which announced a new sonic direction for the Irish singer-songwriter when it was released in July, as he teamed up with producer Nineteen85(Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’), to build cinematic layers of sound and hip-hop beats as a foundation upon which he could float his iconic vocals.
