Well this week is going to be huge, the Splendour In The Grass lineup is revealed and I've got a feeling some of the acts announced may be in this New Releases list, not sure/maybe....
Either way new material from The Gorillaz, Waaves, The Black Angels and more!
THE GORILLAZ - 'ASCENSION' Feat Vince Staples (Warner Music Australia)
The world’s most successful virtual band announced their highly anticipated return with Humanz, the new studio album out 28th April. This is the band’s first album in 7 years, after Gold certified Plastic Beach which peaked at #1 on the ARIA chart and The Fall. The 360 animated virtual video for Saturnz Barz also dropped with the album announce, including a snippet of Ascension.
A truly global phenomenon, Gorillaz have topped charts around the world and toured the globe from San Diego to Syria, picking up hundreds of millions of streams and record sales along the way.
PLANETARIUM - 'SATURN' (4AD / Remote Control Records)
Planetarium, the new collaborative album co-composed by Sufjan Stevens, Bryce Dessner, Nico Muhly and James McAlister, is set for release Friday 9th June via 4AD / Remote Control Records.Album track 'Saturn', and its accompanying music video, premiere today—listen and watch via the image below.
A completely reimagined version of the project originally undertaken years ago and performed in various iterations around the world, Planetarium unites Stevens’ vocals, McAlister’s beats, Dessner’s guitar performance, and Muhly’s instrumental compositions—part rock odyssey, part electronic experiment, part classical opus.
WAAVES - 'ANIMAL' (Ghost Ramp)
Following the recent announcement of their new album You're Welcome, Wavves is back to share a new single. "Animal", which debuted on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 show, starts in a measured cadence before escalating into a familiarly frantic pace. The band has already shared two singles: "Daisy" and the album's title track "You're Welcome". Together the two tracks showcase the breadth of material on the band's new album: "Daisy" is a characteristically upbeat Wavves anthem while "You're Welcome" is a heavier, brooding track until its chorus comes around.
LONDON GRAMMAR - 'TRUTH IS A BEAUTIFUL THING' (Dew Process)
As with their debut If You Wait, this album was written almost exclusively by Hannah, Dot and Dan who poured their experiences from thirty months on the road into the new material.
The trio went on to work with the likes of Oscar winning producer Paul Epworth (Florence & The Machine, Bloc Party), Mercury nominated Jon Hopkins (Brian Eno, King Creosote) and LA based Greg Kurstin (Sia, Beck) as well as Tim Bran and Roy Kerr who also worked on their debut If You Wait.
‘Truth Is A Beautiful Thing’, the title track from the album, is available instantly with the album pre-order HERE.
THE BLACK ANGELS - I'D KILL FOR HER' (Partisan Records via [PIAS] )
Produced by Phil Ek (Father John Misty, Fleet Foxes, The Shins), Death Song features some of the heaviest music these psych rock standard-bearers have ever put to wax – slow-burning, menacing fuzz earworms meditating on the realities of society and devotion. The album’s opening track, “Currency”, has already earned raves everywhere from the New York Times to NPR Music, who say “heavy psych rarely feels as fresh as it does with The Black Angels”.
AIRLING FEAT TOM IANSEK - 'A DAY IN THE PARK' (Pieater)
Following the release of the first two singles 'Move Me' and 'Not A Fighter' off her forthcoming debut LP 'Hard To Sleep, Easy To Dream', Airling returns with the release of album track 'A Day In The Park (Feat. Tom Iansek)' and accompanying live video. Watch it below:
The beautifully stripped back track was written after walking in on Iansek playing the piano riff in the studio one day. Shepherd notes, “It’s a duet and a poignant and peaceful moment in the middle of the album. I feel like it’s a reminder for us to take time out to be peaceful, to fill ourselves up with love and the hope we have for others to be filled up with this love as well. I think this song is also reflective of the trust and friendship Tom and I have, as well as our intangible and powerful creative connection.”
GOLDEN VESSEL FEAT EMERSON LEIF - 'TELL THE GIRL' (Exist.Recordings)
Following last year's 'Before Sleep' EP, rising producer Golden Vessel returns with new single and video 'Tell The-Girl (ft. Emerson Leif)'. The single will be released in collaboration with Exist. Recordings, a new label founded by Danny Harley (The Kite String Tangle), and will coincide with the premiere of an audio-visual experience titled 'GV Projections Show' at Brisbane's Black Bear Lodge on March 31st.
‘Tell The-Girl’ is characterised by the forward thinking down-tempo electronica and stunning pop melodies which have earned Golden Vessel, the production moniker of Max Byrne, widespread acclaim from the likes of Billboard, THUMP, Rolling Stone and triple j Unearthed as well as a loyal online fanbase who have contributed to over 6 million streams of his back catalogue.
HOOPS - 'ON TOP' (Fat Possum)
Bloomington, Indiana’s Hoops will release their full-length debut album Routines on Friday May 5 on Fat Possum via Inertia Music, and today they share the record’s second single “On Top”. "I just felt like writing a cheesy feel-good positive song,” Kevin Krauter (vox, bass) explains. In the song’s trippy music video, Hoops perform on a public access TV show when all of a sudden the viewers find themselves immersed in the performance.
