Holy New Releases - This is a very exciting week. After 6 six long years The Belligerents are giving us another taste of what to expect from their debut album Science Fitcion with 'Flash'. We also have new music from fuzz rock trio Los Scallywaggs with 'Death Party' to coincide with their album release tomorrow and upcoming tour announcement!
THE BELLIGERENTS - 'FLASH' (Sony Music)
After six years in the making, THE BELLIGERENTS are psyched to announce the details of their long-awaited debut album Science Fiction, and share the music video for their new single ‘Flash’. The Brisbane 5-piece will share their LP on September 8 via Sony Music, pre-order available now.
Directed by Greta Nash, the ‘Flash’ video is an epic tongue-in-cheek homage to 80’s Sci-Fi, inspired by the band’s obsession with the genre.
The Belligerents’ bass player Konstantin Kersting explains: “a little while back we all became fixated with dramatic 80’s Sci-Fi films like Blade Runner and Flash Gordon. It was a lot of fun to coming up with a clip that gave nods to that era whilst accentuating the outlandishness of the whole thing”.
Songwriter and vocalist Lewis Stephenson adds that ‘Flash’ is about “the incomparable feeling of contact high. Experiencing it when a certain somebody is around you, and completely losing it altogether when they’re not. In a way it’s also about trying to convince somebody else that it’s taking hold. The idea was to try and transpose the push-pull dynamic of that feeling into the song.”
KIM CHURCHILL - 'SECOND HAND CAR' (Warner Music)
'Second Hand Car' is the new single to come from Kim Churchill. Following the success of ‘Breakneck Speed’ and its supporting national tour, Kim Churchill releases the next taste of his new album, which is due to be announced next week.
‘Second Hand Car’ is peak Kim Churchill – whilst bigger in sound, it’s a summary of his experience writing and performing all over the world yet with the warmth and charm of local lad ‘done good with a guitar.’

BENCH PRESS - 'GROUP ANXIETY' (Poison City)
The likeable foursome have just signed to posion city and have a debut LP in the works, but for now they’ve drip-fed us a video for their single 'Group Anxiety' and a nice Melbourne launch show. 'Group Anxiety' chugs along with vibrant bass tones and bright, clean guitar sounds. Brash and brittle vocals. Propelled forward by a constant rhythmic groove, the song lurches between cool, simplistic restraint and an explosive chorus, with guitarist Morgan Griffiths injecting the perfect amount of chiming, loud-quiet-loud dynamic

Emerging from the South East corner of Queensland comes Whoa! Meeting at Griffith University on the Gold Coast only last year, this quintet consists of a diverse mix of musicians, all who have incredible talent, energy and stage presence that has gained them a fierce reputation around their hometown.
With only four shows under their belt, the band have supported Sydney band Planet, The Vanns and played the Ozfest After Party (Ball Park Music, British India). They then announced their debut headline show, and over 300 paying ticket holders were drooling over Whoa!’s ever unpredictable live set, almost selling out Miami Shark Bar, and cementing the band’s reputation as one of the Gold Coast’s most formidable live bands.
The band have just released their debut single “Stay The Night” and it is a goodie!
SPARROWS _ 'TAKE MY HEART OUT' (Rare Finds)
After releasing two standout singles in 2016, Sydney-based songstress Sparrows has returned with her stellar follow up single ‘Take My Heart Out’ – a delicately layered track where poignant lyrics float over an infectious soundscape.
Drawing inspiration from the likes of Grimes, Lykke Li and Bjork, the self-produced and recorded effort combines sampled recordings with themes of folk, pop and electronica; whilst melding rich vocal harmonies and textures, delivering a genuinely raw account of an addictive relationship.
Sparrows describes the inspiration and meaning behind ‘Take My Heart Out’ –“Seeing so many people getting lost in their devices lately, it got me thinking about a time when I lost my identity to a relationship. I could see myself doing ridiculous and embarrassingly obsessive things but couldn’t stop it, kind of like when you can't stop your thumb from scrolling, hoping you're going to land on a pot of gold. As humans, we all have a propensity to get caught up in addictive behaviour - often in an attempt to tame our mindless chatter or fill a void with stuff. Take My Heart Out is about crossing that fine line into addiction.”
THE LOVE JUNKIES - JOHNNY HORNER (MGM Distribution)
The Love Junkies today give you new single "Johnny Horner" off their upcoming EP 'Cough and Splutter' which will be available June 30 digitally and July 7th physically. They will be launching the EP live in Perth and Melbourne throughout July.
'Cough and Splutter' is the first of two EP's to be released this year, both EP's will be combined into a vinyl release in October.
In the blistering, unforgiving, tongue-in-cheek grunge-punk style we have come to love from the Perth 4-piece, “Johnny Horner’s about being stuck at a super hip bar with super hip people blowing plumes of champion ruby up each others super hip a**holes.”
